CrowdSourced Culture for YOU! The FEED, March 11, 2014
Doings
Catching up after a host of conferences.
It’s always such a drag meeting new, interesting people from different countries.
(JOKE!)
I do have a backlog of emails and social media ablutions to catch up on.
I used to have one in-box, years ago. Now I have dozens.
More to explore, if you view the glass as half full.

General Notes
In terms of labeling, I’ve decided to call this ‘The Feed’ which is infinitely sexier than ‘The Filing Cabinet’. It also reflects more closely the topic: media & ideas I’m consuming and sharing. Stay tuned for a quiet rebranding.
Speaking of FEEDS, I’m curious to see what PodCasts / Video series you can’t live without. Do share.

Back to the blog: it’s great to see Tharum and Banyan Blog writing up our blogging pals.
http://tharum.com/blog/cambodian-bloggers-on-blogging
Back when there were a few dozen in the Kingdom, it felt like a little club.
And it’s great to see where they’ve ended up. This last week, human rights (and Global Voices) blogger Chak Sopheap was named head of the Cambodian Center for Human Rights. Rock on!
I’m getting enjoyable, sporadic email updates from the desk of Pete Ashton. http://peteashton.com/ They’re very much in blog format, just sent out as a newsletter. Maybe I should be sending out these ruminations in that form? Hmm….

Some have commented that Michelangelo’s ‘David’ statue was rather modestly endowed. Geekery: I’m particularly enjoying archiving articles via Instapaper.com. I run across a lot of items on the fly (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and this gives me a chance to read them in due time.
Don’t take my word for it (I’m late to the game), listen to Merlin: http://www.43folders.com/2011/10/17/instapaper-4
Other news: is it just me, or are pop-up ads increasing exponentially these days? Trust me, if I want your app, or a subscription? I’ll let you know.
Open Open Open: You have data to share? Or is it just ‘data washed’ chaff, designed to omit or obfuscate? (Cough cough *World Bank* cough cough) http://blog.okfn.org/2014/03/10/open-washing-the-difference-between-opening-your-data-and-simply-making-them-available/
Music: Doctor Who Dubstep. Trust him, he’s a doctor.

And you did get the mixtape from Adam Warrock, yes?

Adam’s also released a ‘Game Of Thrones‘ mixtape. ‘Cause he’s a geek, and a fan. http://adamwarrock.tumblr.com/post/49256187494/free-download-of-my-entire-game-of-thrones-mixtape
HBO has decided on an ‘All-Star’ cast for their ‘Game Of Thrones’ hip-hop compilation: ‘Catch The Throne‘, intended to capture a more ‘ethnic’ audience… instead of curating all the existing hip-hop by nerdcore artists. Their loss. In my view? Dominik Omega’s initial track shows the difference between sincere fan works and, ahem, paid marketers. http://www.geekosystem.com/catch-the-throne-review/
